How to Host a Holiday Party Like a Pro

Octopus Hospitality’s tips and tricks on hosting a holiday party like a pro

It’s that time of year again; lists to Santa are being drafted, prawns and iced coffee are abundant, the smell of sunscreen fills the air, and Michael Bubblé is probably defrosting as we speak.

Some of the best memories come from the holiday season; opening presents, time spent with loved ones and of course Holiday parties. But sometimes the stress, preparation, and planning that goes into creating the picture-perfect holiday party can be remised. This year we want to help change that.

We’ve created the ultimate guide to help take the weight and worry of planning a holiday party off your shoulders. Whether that be an office party á la Kate Winslet in The Holiday or a celebration with friends and family; we’re here to help.

Embrace the Tech World

As daunting and foreign as tech may seem, there are a ton of easy-to-use apps out there that can help keep your pre-party concerns at bay. Evernote App for iPhone and Android is a great tool to help you keep track of your pre-party to do’s. We suggest creating three lists:

  1. Things to Remember: for example guest allergies
  2. Things to Get: such as picking up napkins
  3. Guests: for your confirmed party goers

If you plan on co-hosting a party try using Google docs. It allows multiple users to contribute to the same online document so you and your cohost can collaborate on a joint to-do list easily, and on your own time.

Save a tree, and digitize your invitation with Eventbrite. Create an event and send out invitations to your guests via the Eventbrite website. The best part is Eventbrite keeps track of your RSVP’s and follow ups so z

Simple Decorations are your friend

If 2018 has taught us anything, it’s that Pinterest images can be deceiving. A simple DIY can quickly turn into a WTF. You’re already busy enough around the holidays, so try embracing a more minimalist approach. Fool-proof decorations like tea lights, taper candles, and festive greenery prove a little can go a long way. To add to the ambiance, opt for holiday scented candles; mulled wine, sugar cookie, and evergreen.

Cooking, serving, and clean up can dominate any host’s time to the point where the party becomes more work than play. If you plan on hosting a party give yourself the best present this holiday season; peace of mind.

At Octopus, we do it all; cook, serve, and clean. Our extensive, and highly trained professional staff know the value of good hospitality.
